GM_GENIUS Upgrader Program
1. Connect the PC and ESC using the USB-adapter(#7168.6)
2. Execute (GM_GENIUS_Upgrader_Vx_x_x) and set like below popup.
But, COM port can be changed depending on PC. (most PCs use COM2 if available)
3. After clicking to the Browse button then choose .bin file to be updated.
4. Click to the Program button.
Waiting for Hardware…this message should show.
5. During this message ‘Waiting for Hardware’ is shown immediately press and hold the SETButton
on the speed controller and then the reset button on USB-adapter #7168.6 for a short
time to start the upgrade.
6. Release the SET-button of the speed controller, if ‘Flash Programming …%’ is shown.
After firmware upgrade is properly finished, “ Successfully Done” message should appear.
7. Now, updated firmware should be working.
Error message:
If the message ‘Find not target device!!’ is shown, start again at 4.
GM-Genius Software V12.x for #9716x:
Read out the values of your speed controller first. Before you update the speed controller, write down
the value of the correction factor current limit.
After the firmwareupgrade a factory reset should be made, to load the new Mode 6-9 settings into the
EEPROM memory
After the update the correction factor for the current limit must be set as before! If you forget this, the
speed controller may have no acceleration. If you did forget the value, adjust the correction factor
current limit to 64.
The correction factor current limit can be optimized very easy, if Li-batteries are used. This allows you
more accurate capacity readings and adjustments of the current limit.
1.) Push the button after your heat and read out the used capacity.
2.) Recharge your battery and write down the charged capacity, when charging is finished.
3.) correction factor * charged capacity / discharged capacity = new correction factor current limit
example: 64 * 2800mAh / 1900mAh = 94
Step 1-3 can be done more times, until the displayed capacity after the heat is very accurate.
All three LEDs do blink at neutral position, if no power software is used.
To activate the new Stocksoftware for max. Top Speed
Reserved4 = 1 must be activated. Klick value 1 (Stock high speed timing).
Attention: If this new Stock software is activated a rpm_Limit is set automatically. Without load at full
throttle the motor does not run smooth. Do never give full throttle without load on the motor!
The power at the start is set with
Max. Timing: 0-30. Best value 12-25
The power and rpm fort he race is adjusted with fixed timing. Best value 12-25
The following functions do still work:
Variable dependence timing
Add. Timing only at full throttle
Timingsoftware V7.1…7.x
We recommend to set only Variable dependence timing.
All other timing functions will have no influence.
If Reserved4=2 is activated, value 2 is set (High Speed Timing with switching point rpm), so the
high speed timing is activated only above the switching point rpm.
Switching point RPM with 2S LiPo:
21,5T 5000rpm
17,5T 6000rpm
13,5T 10000rpm

Note: You cannot upgrade the firmware of the older GM Genius speed controls with this program (versions 4.8 etc and 7.2 etc)
IMPORTANT: After firmware upgrade. Reset the speedo to factory reset before setting to your transmitter and programming.
(How to reset: Plug into Lipo and turn on. Hold down button until it beeps. Release and then hold down button again untill it beeps (3 times). Release button. Wait until it beeps 3 times again.. Turn off and then it is ready to set to transmitter.
To set to transmitter: Plug in and turn on. Hold down button until it beeps. Release button
Pull transmitter stick(trigger) to full throttle (program1) then push to full brake(program2), pull to full throttle(program3)
Continue until you reach the number you want. Then hold the transmitter stick(trigger) in that position until the speed control beeps.
Release stick and then speed control will be in the new program number you have selected.
Note: You must set the transmitter throttle to 100% forward and 100% brake before programing, for this to work correctly.

NOTES:
To read the max motor revs and amp draw at the end of a run, or when bench testing:
After the run or after revving up.
Press the button on the speed control once. Then unplug from battery.
Plug in the USB connector and read to computer
The revs and amps will be shown at the top of the Telemetry page
To set the switching point:
Disconnect the sensor cable from the speed control
Rev the motor in the car (with the wheels spinning) to full speed.
Return to neutral and press the button on the speed control
Attach the USB cable and read the data which will show the revs of the motor
Set the switching point to half of that value for indoor tracks.
For outdoor tracks with longer straights set the switching point between half and 2/3rds of that value.

NOTE: When testing on the bench: The motor may pulse at full revs. This is to stop the motor over reving and blowing the rotor or a winding. It will not pulse on the track or under load.
