Schumacher G868 Mi4CX gear diff complete set. (Spec.R)
Gear diff for Mi4CX (Spec.R)
Requires oil (1000 to 2000 for rear) (personally I think shock oil 70wt is too thin)
Also thicker grease such as diff grease or anti wear grease for the assembly of shafts, o rings and grease the gasket etc. to prevent leakage.
Note: Do not sand back of the gears unless there is any flashing that needs to be removed. Then sand very lightly to smooth edges.
Assemble first without oil and check free rotation of gears without binding or too much play.
Note the shims are to set end float of the gear mesh.
The larger steel shim is fitted first, then the smaller shim both between O ring and pin.
This takes up any play between gears.
Do not fit shim on outside of housing, or outdrives will not run true.
Do not overfill the housing with oil or the gears will bind.
I recommend a second gasket to set the gear mesh without causing high spot binding
I recommend the Xray 971240 rubber O ring placed over the green gasket in the recess (tight fit around the edge) Then when screwing housing together, compress to get perfect mesh.
Tighten the 4 screws gradually and check smooth rotation of gears before fully tightening.
Do not loosen the 4 screws or the oil will leak out past them.
The diff will feel much smoother and free after fitted in car with wheels.
